Sara, Bryce, Hayley,Ms. Laverne & all of Hal's family, my heartfelt condolences go out to you. I've been in tears all day over the loss of my true BFF and buddy.
I feel so blessed to have become such great friends with Hal. He was smart, sweet, talented and had a great sense of humor. Although I knew Hal during my school years, when I moved back to Pinehurst we really bonded over the emptiness we both felt after both of our fathers passed away. In the beginning sorrow brought us together but that sorrow lead to a strong, loving and meaningful friendship. I could talk to Hal about anything and everything. We shared so many things over the years, good times, bad times, laughter and tears.
Hal had the biggest heart. If you really got to know him, you had a friend for life. He'd do anything for you. He was selfless when it came to a person in need. He stepped up to help locals in need, not to mention the children at St Jude's Medical Center or the ASPCA.
Hal loved so many things but his love of music, animals and the needy took a back seat to his biggest love, his family. He absolutely LOVED his family--those still here and those who had gone on to be with our Lord. Sara, he was soooooo proud of you and your accomplishments and Bryan had his 100% approval. Also, he would never tire of talking about Bryce and Haley. His eyes would light up when he had new pictures to share with me of Haley & Bryce on his phone. He loved keeping me up-to-date where they were concerned. He was a very proud father and grandpa.
I could go on and on about my dear, awesome friend, Hal. Until I take my last breath, I'll cherish the many wonderful conversations and memories we shared together. I know that Hal was a Christian and it gives me comfort knowing that I will see him again someday. For now, I hope he is up there picking and singing with his Aunt Joyce, Uncle LA and perhaps my daddy. Hal never liked saying goodbye as it could imply a final farewell. We always ended every phone conversation or personal departure with, "later." Until we meet again my BFF, I'll say, "LATER."
May God give us all a comfort and strength that can only come from Him to endure this loss and move forward knowing that we will meet again someday.
