Our Nana, Elizabeth Ann Gray Mims, age 85, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. She passed away peacefully with her family around her at Summerhill Nursing Center in Perry.
Nana was born on the family farm in the Sugar Hill Community of Houston County on September 26, 1937. She graduated from Unadilla High School and attended Morris Business School in Atlanta. She was a supervisor at the Anheuser Busch Plant in Jacksonville, Florida and was also a supervisor at the Pabst Brewery in Perry before her retirement.
Being a world traveler, she visited many countries. Her favorite country was Israel where she was baptized in the River Jordan. In retirement, she did seasonal work at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and at Custer State Park in South Dakota. She made many friends there and was a beloved mentor to her fellow workers.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Oppie (Rod); her son, John Mims (Dianne), her sister, Brenda Jones (Dennis); her brothers, John William Gray, Jr. and Harold Gray; her grandchildren, Dena Walter, Ryan Oppie, Michael Oppie, Amber Oppie, Jennifer Brown and Christina Lockerman; her 18 great grandchildren.
She had many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Nana cherished relationships with lifelong friends, who were her extended family.
Nana was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Edwin Mims; her parents, John and Esther Gray; her sisters, Martha Gray Fletcher and Jean Gray McWhorter and her father and mother-in-law, Walter and Ollie Mims.
Private viewing for the family will be 6 - 7 pm Friday, April 21 with public viewing and visitation for friends 7 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
A service for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
