Walter E. Ricketts, Jr

Walter E. Ricketts, Jr., age 84, of 1068 South Pine Knoll Drive, Macon, died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon.

He was born on December 4, 1931 in Madison, Indiana to the late Walter E. Ricketts and Alma L. Claflin Ricketts. He was a 1949 graduate of Madison High School. He was employed at Williamson Heater until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1951. During his enlistment, he served 28 months in the Far East Theater rising to the rank of Airman 1st Class before being honorably discharged at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia in May, 1955. In July, he accepted employment in the labor department of the IKEC Power Plant. He resigned his position there as maintenance mechanic in 1966 to accept a management position with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. in Lexington, Kentucky. In 1975, he was transferred to their new plant in Macon, Georgia to manage the maintenance department. He retired from that position in September, 1989.

He is survived by two brothers, George C. Ricketts (Helen) and Charles J. Ricketts (Mary Pat) both of Madison, IN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Dupree Ricketts of Unadilla, Georgia who died on May 4, 2013. They were married on November 11, 1955 at St. Patrick Church in Madison, IN.

Mr. Ricketts was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon since 1975. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 3 and a life member of the NRA.

Graveside services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, February 2 at Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla.

The family will greet friends 1 - 2 PM Tuesday, February 2 at the funeral home.
