Sayra Ambrose

June 24, 1918 — October 5, 2011

Sayra Ambrose, age 93, of 317 North Third Street, Vienna, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011, in Big Canoe, Georgia.

Born in Dooly County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Adkins and Jewell Aycock Adkins and the widow of Ben Thomas Ambrose. She was a member of Vienna First Baptist Church, the WMU and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Ambrose founded the Houston Association Camp and directed it for many years. She also served on the Vienna City Council, was president of the Vienna Garden Club and was a trustee of the Lake Blackshear Regional Library and the Dooly County Library.

Survivors include:
Daughter: Alyce A. Black (Jess) of Gainesville

Sons:
Ben Ambrose of Hogansville
Spurgeon Ambrose of Vienna
Bob Ambrose of Lagos, Nigeria

Grandchildren: 9
Great Grandchildren: 8

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Friday, October 7 in Vienna First Baptist Church with interment in Vienna City Cemetery.

The family will greet friends 6 - 8 PM Thursday, October 6 at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Benevolence Fund of Vienna First Baptist Church, PO Box 351, Vienna, GA 31092.

Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna has charge of arrangements.
