Capt. George Marion “ Pete” Fowler, Retired USNR, age 90, of Russell Springs, Kentucky, died Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.
Pete was born in Unadilla to Carolyn Clewis Barron. Pete graduated from Unadilla High School. Upon receiving his BA Degree from Georgia Middle College, he began an extensive career in the United States Navy, retiring from his final station at Ft. McHenry in Baltimore, MD as commanding officer, ending his 24 years of service. Afterwards, Pete entered the Financial Services business in Williamsburg, VA.; then retiring again in 2012. Pete’s love for the Lord and fellow man was evident by his service to Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Va. He was a Deacon, coordinated and served on several outreach ministries such as building wheelchair ramps, firewood collection and distribution, and various others ministries. Outside the church, Pete was a member of the Gideons for over 45 years and was involved with their prison ministry for 30 years. In his spare time, He enjoyed fishing, working in the yard and enjoying the view of the James River with his wife and friends. For many years, he hosted a Men’s Fishing Camp, inviting men of all ages for fishing, food, and fellowship. Pete also loved to golf, and served as the head marshal for several years for the LPGA at Kingsmill Golf Course in Williamsburg, VA.
Pete’s passion was to share his love for Jesus Christ with everyone he met. Rest in peace, Papa.
He is survived by 2 children, Carla (Michael) Slates of Raleigh, NC and Greta Holder of Russell Springs, KY; 3 grandchildren, Bailey Holder, Clay Holder, and Leah Slates; a great-grandson, Simon Holder; a loving caretaker, Regina Burton; 2 sisters, Lilian Jane Barron (Danny) Jones and Sibbie Gail (Rick ) Parrottino; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorette Fowler.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, November 22 in Snow United Methodist Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
