Odell Culpepper Shipman, age 90, of 805 North 4th Street, Cordele, went home to be with her King on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. She passed away peacefully at her residence.
Mrs. Shipman was born on June 14, 1921 in Worth County to the late David C. Culpepper and Eula V. Culpepper. A homemaker, Mrs. Shipman was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a Christian and a member of Wenona Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Grady Mathis of Cordele; her son, Jerry Deward Shipman of Cordele; her sister, Willene Beard of Ashburn; her grandchildren, Danielle (Charles) Yawn, Brian Crissman, Becky Crissman, and John David Mathis all of Cordele, and Tiffany (Larry) Bourne of Roswell; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Cole, Megan Crissman, Carley Yawn, and Liam Mathis all of Cordele and Anna Catherine, Ryan and Patrick Bourne of Roswell; several nieces and nephews and one devoted pet, a cat named Patches.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deward Henry Shipman; her brother, Gilmer Culpepper and W. J. Culpepper and her sisters, Esteen Willis and Guinelle Lindsey.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Friday, March 9 in Wenona Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Red Oak Cemetery in Worth County.
The family will greet friends 6 - 8 PM Thursday, March 8 at the funeral home.
