Melvin Oakes

Melvin Richard Oakes, age 65, of 471 Oak Avenue, Pinehurst, died Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Melvin was born in Vienna to the late Luther Avery Oakes, Jr. and Joyce Lee Bowden Oakes.  He grew up in Pinehurst as one of the "backstreet kids.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and watching his favorite football team, the Atlanta Falcons.  Melvin will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include: Son:  Stephen Clifton Oakes of Lake Park

Brothers: John Bowden Oakes of Macon Luther Avery Oakes, III of Duluth

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Eliza Oakes and Stephanie Ann Wasdin; his grandchild, Abigail Elisa Wasdin and his brother, Lowell Eugene Oakes.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will celebrate Melvin's life with a service to be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
