Melville “Mel” G. Carter, 82, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026.

Born on October 25, 1943, in Brunswick, Georgia, Mel spent his youth enjoying the coastal Georgia sunshine. He later met the love of his life, Lorene, at Georgia Southern University, where they were both students. They married in 1965 and shared 54 years of marriage and a lifetime of happiness, building a foundation of love that inspired all who knew them.

Mel was known for his quick wit, charming smile, and ability to bring laughter to those around him. He had a generous spirit and was always willing to help others, truly valuing the love and companionship of family and friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorene Barron Carter; his parents, Melville Giles Carter and Lillian (Powell) Carter; and his dear sister and brother-in-law, Margo and Tom Conard. His legacy lives on through his family: his son, Mel Carter Jr.; his cherished grandson and little buddy, Jackson Carter; his daughter, Tiffany Gibson (Matt); and many special nieces and nephews.

Mel and Lorene’s cremains will be laid to rest together at Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla, Georgia. A graveside service for the inurnment of their cremains will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.

To Lorene, there was no happier place on earth than Unadilla, Georgia. Now she will spend eternity there with her beloved parents and the love of her life, Mel. Rest in Peace Mom and Dad, we love and miss you so.
