Mary Fullington Hudgins, age 87, of Blairsville, died Monday, June 30, 2008 at Union County Nursing Home, two days before her 88th birthday.
She was born in Pinehurst on July 2, 1920, and was the fourth of ten children born to the late James D. Fullington and Mary Adina Wilson Fullington. In the early 1940's, she moved to Wildwood, Florida, with her husband, the late Olin W. Hudgins, and their young son. Later, they moved to Orlando where their daughter was born. She worked for Crown Cork & Seal, Co. until her retirement in 1973. Following her husband's retirement, they began to travel and fell in love with the mountains of Blairsville, Georgia, and soon made it their second home and finally their full-time home.
She was a member of Killarney Baptist Church in Orlando, but in recent years her health made it impossible for her to attend, so she rarely missed a television sermon. It was her belief that the Lord wants His people to be involved in church and love everyone.
Mrs. Hudgins loved her family and her friends and appreciated all the good Lord blessed her with. She also had a great love for gardening and flowers and that love was inspired by her early years living on a rural farm during the depression.
She is survived by her children, James Olin Hudgins of Christmas, FL and Linda Hudgins Thornton (Jerry) of Blairsville; sisters, Martha Brown of Vienna and Helen Chester of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, James Olin Hudgins, Jr. (Joy) of Orlando, FL, Jeri Lynn Thornton Dalessio (Joseph Anthony) and Mary Cacindra "Cindy" Thornton Flater (Gregory Allen); great grandchildren, James Olin Hudgins, III, Heaven Hudgins, Anthony Kluba, Brittany Dalessio, Joey Dalessio, Brandon Dalessio, Victoria Dalessio, Ben Flater and Angel Flater.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Tommy Hudgins; brothers, John, Joe and Lon Fullington and sisters, Jimmie Reed, Evelyn Lewis, Polly Gore and Betty Dubey.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 5 in the chapel of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna. Rev. Ken Zollinger will officiate and interment will follow in Pinehurst City Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday, July 4 at the funeral home.
