Martha Peterman Lewis Wolff, age 81, of Elko, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Serenity Gate after a courageous ten year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Martha was born on September 17, 1926 in Taylor County to L. E. and Jeffie Jane Gassett Peterman. She resided in Elko since 1943. In 1944, she married Zuma Lewis and together they owned and operated the Elko Grocery for many years. She retired from Oxford Industries in Unadilla. Martha was a member of Elko Baptist Church. She had a true heart of service and was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. She loved to fish, dance and laugh and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a joy for life and a vibrant personality before her illness.
She is survived her children, Priscilla Floyd (Jack) of Gordon, Bobby Lewis (Leelee) of Elko, Jeffy Lewis of Elko and Debbie Prater (Ricky) of Perry; a sister, Ruth Barrow of Statesboro; grandchildren, Michael Holmes (Kim), Wanda Clarke (Matt), Victor Mizell (Marie), Amy Mizell Newhouse (Neal), Randy Mizell (Katie), Brian Lewis (Laurie), Matt Lewis (Erica), Travis Prater, Erin Baker and Jeff Floyd; 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Zuma Lewis and Charles Wolff, and by six siblings, Jesse, John, Pete and Junior Peterman and Viola Byrd and Mary Chapman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 12 in Elko United Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Teate and Rev. Roland Fall will officiate. Interment will follow in Elko Cemetery.
Michael Holmes, Victor Mizell, Randy Mizell, Brian Lewis, Matt Lewis and Travis Prater will serve as pallbearers.
The family will greet friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday, January 11 at the funeral home.
