Madge Swain Scarborough

Madge Swain Scarborough, age 98, of Durham, North Carolina, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Home in Durham.
Born in Pinehurst, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Swain and Maude Lee Peavy Swain. She retired from the Federal Highway Administration (USDOT) after a 33 year career in the Atlanta division. Mrs. Scarborough had taught school at Mars Hill and Pinehurst and was a member of Pinehurst Baptist Church.
A longtime resident of Atlanta, she also had a summer home in Highlands, NC where she enjoyed the mountains and visiting with friends and family. She was an avid traveler and had many wonderful trips after retirement. Affectionately called "Sweething" by her grandchildren, she was adored by them for her persona and fun loving personality.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 21 in Pinehurst City Cemetery with Rev. Freddy Hogg officiating.
