Joyce H. (Hogsett) Durham

Joyce Hogsett Durham, 94, of Calhoun, formerly of Albany and Vienna passed away at AdventHealth Gordon in Calhoun on Saturday, April 29, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Craddock Durham. Born in Cordele, she was the daughter of the late John Otis and Annie Lee Hogsett. Her brother, Harold Hogsett, also predeceased her.

Mrs. Durham is survived by her children, Dr. John Craddock Durham (Carla) of Ranburne, AL and Patti Durham Cannon (Phillip) of Rocky Face; grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Ashley (Alex) Swinborne of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England, John Craddock Durham, Jr. (Joy) of Marietta, Caroline Wood of Dallas, Rebekah Cannon of Chattanooga, TN, and Chandler Cannon of Celebration, FL; great-grandchildren, Gabe Wood, Harper Wood, Brodie Garner, John Henry Durham, Ellen Durham, and Mary Durham. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Many thanks to her caregivers over the years who became like family: Mollie Russell, Gail Parris, and Kim Myers.

Mrs. Durham was a devout Christian and a leader in the churches she attended. She was held in high regard as an excellent Bible teacher in such churches as Radium Springs Baptist Church in  Albany, First Baptist Church of Vienna and First Baptist Church of Dalton.  She also was a leader in Women on Mission programs at these churches. She retired as a school teacher from the Dougherty County School System. Her students have always held and continue to hold her in the highest regard. She found great joy in fishing, traveling, and reading. However, her greatest joy was found in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family is her legacy.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Joyce Hogsett Durham will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 3 PM in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home in Dalton with Reverend Phillip Cannon and Reverend Larry Flanagan officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 PM at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, May 3 in Mars Hill Cemetery near Vienna where she will be buried next to her husband, Craddock.
