Jeanette (Layfield) Thompson

Jeanette Thompson, age 89 of 762 First Street, Unadilla, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Blackshear Villas in Cordele.

Born in Pinehurst, she was the daughter of the late Sam Layfield and Rena Smith Layfield.  A member of First Baptist Church of Unadilla, she dedicated over 40 years to working in the nursery.  She retired from the Dooly County High School Cafeteria after 38 years of service.  She was a devoted mother and a loving Nana.  Jeanette was an amazing cook for her family and enjoyed growing the flowers that flourished under her green thumb.  She was also an excellent seamstress.

Survivors include: Children: Ray Thompson of Macon David Thompson of Columbia, SC Jan Hamrick (Wyndell) of Vienna

Grandchildren: Johnathan Hamrick Ansley Scarborough (Cal) Jana Smith (Ken) Karli Ray (Matthew) Brie Anna Thompson

Great Grandchildren: Mason Scarborough Tate Scarborough Gresham Ray Rhett Smith Ila Kate Ray

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, J. T. Thompson.

A graveside service for immediate family only was held at 11 AM Friday, May 13 at Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla.
