Janie P. Stephens

Janie P. Stephens, age 95, of 77 Leavens Road, Unadilla, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Autumn Terrace in Perry.
Born in Dooly County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Peavy and Annie Shivers Peavy. She graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing (now Samford University) in Birmingham, Alabama, and worked for many years as a nurse, including one year in the US Army Nursing Corps. Mrs. Stephens was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Unadilla and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Scurry D. Stephens and her siblings, Harris Peavy and Bernice Jones.
She is survived by her sister, Alvarez Hudson of Unadilla and many nieces and nephews who also cared for her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 19 in First Baptist Church of Unadilla with interment in Harmony-Smyrna Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9:30 - 10:30 AM Saturday, February 19.
