James Ernest Odom, age 86, of Unadilla, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005.
Born in Coffee County, he was the son of the late Jim Odum and Irene Tucker Odum. He was a US Army veteran of World War II earning the bronze star and receiving 2 purple hearts. Mr. Odom was a 1949 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee and a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer for over 50 years. He started his career at Fisher Funeral Home in Cochran and in 1950, moved to Unadilla to work at Shepherd Funeral Home. In 1957, he bought Shepherd Funeral Home and operated it as Odom Funeral Home until 1982. He continued working at the funeral home until his health declined in March of 2005. He was a former Mason and Shriner, former president of the Unadilla Housing Authority, a member of Middle Flint Development Authority and a Baptist.

He is also survived by his loyal and faithful friend Honey Odom, his yellow lab.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday on the front lawn of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home in Unadilla.
A private interment will be held Thursday afternoon in Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6 - 8 PM Wednesday, November 2.
