J. B. Ryner, age 84, of Augusta, died Friday, December 26, 2014, at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange.
Mr. Ryner was born in Vienna on December 17, 1930. He graduated from Gordon Military Academy and then went on to the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor's degree in business administration. While attending UGA, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, the UGA swim team and Army ROTC. He served our country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. While serving, he was called home to take over the family business at the time of his father's death. He later went on to own and operate the Ryner Pecan Company. Throughout the years, he was involved in various civic organizations. He was active as a Shriner as well as in the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. At the time of his death, he was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Augusta, where he served as an Elder.
He is survived by his three children, J. B. Ryner, Jr. (Susie), Lyn Kelly (David), Kelly Ryner Burton, and their mother, Carolyn Ryner. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Derrick Ryner, Haley Ryner, Laurie Lyn Burton and Michelle Burton. One great granddaughter, Aubrie Ryner also survives. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by very close friends and family members who loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 4 PM Saturday, January 3 in Vienna City Cemetery.
