J. R. Evans, age 82, of 301 Azalea Circle, Vienna, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Magnolia Manor in Americus.
Born in Bleckley County, he was the son of the late Charlie R. Evans and Beulah Howell Evans. J. R. was a member of Vienna United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Evans Union 76 station for 35 years.
One of JR's passions was high school athletics. He was a fixture at games all across the South and his home team was Fullington Academy in Pinehurst, GA. He hardly missed a game for decades when his kids and grandkids played sports there, and he was voted Fan of the Year by the students of Fullington in 2003. His support for young athletes earned him free admission for the rest of his life. His other passion was his kids, and grandchildren. There was never a game he didn't play, a ball he didn't toss, or a roller coaster he didn't ride. He was as fun, supportive and loving as he could be and will always be remembered.
