Harold Owens

August 1, 1922 — November 29, 2017

Harold Owens, age 95, of Unadilla, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Magnolia Manor in Americus.

Born in Paulding County, he was the son of the late Offord Calhoun Owens and Beatrice Harris Owens.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church during his youth and was a 1941 graduate of Dallas High School.  From 1941-44, he worked as a lineman for Western Union Telegraph.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II and participated in the Okinawa invasion.  He spent the next 50 years as an insurance agent for Life of Georgia and Progressive Farmer Insurance Companies.  Mr. Owens served two terms as Mayor of Unadilla and several terms on the city council.  He was a member of Unadilla United Methodist Church and a 32 degree Mason with Millwood Masonic Lodge.

Ves Owens of Unadilla

Sister:  Marjorie Kelsoe of Orlando, FL

Grandchildren:  Aleta Adkins, Elsie Logan, Joel Owens, Brad Owens, Tiffany Flournoy, Brent Owens, Elizabeth Warbington, Crystal Waddell, Brian Brannen, Brandi McIntyre and Kasi Kishigian

Great Grandchildren:  22

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wylene Collins Owens.

Funeral Services will be at 2 PM Sunday, December 3 in Unadilla United Methodist Church with interment in Walnut Cemetery.

The family will greet friends 6 - 7 PM Friday, December 1 at the funeral home.
