Gary Christopher Christy, age 57, of Atlanta, died Saturday, May 20 in an Atlanta hospital.
Gary devoted his life to helping others in need, first as an Assistant District Attorney and District Attorney in Cordele, Georgia, then as an attorney devoted to protecting the rights of those injured as a result of wrongful conduct of others. Gary Christy, an eight- year veteran of Georgia's Judicial Qualifications Commission, also served as Vice Chair. He shared his great knowledge of the law and its impact on others by teaching at seminars not only for lawyers, but also for doctors and medical professionals. He was the co-author of "Medical Torts in Georgia: a Handbook on State and Federal Law" and published numerous articles in state and local legal publications. His contribution to the law was significant, but was overshadowed by comparison to his impact on the lives of those he knew.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Saunders Christy, his daughter, Casey Christy Rushton, his mother, Theresa Wolff Christy, his sister, Trish Gatti, his brother, Craig Christy and his step children, Julie Ann Busich, Joseph William Busich and Olivia Lee Saunders.
A memorial service celebrating his life and inspiration to others will be held at 12:30 PM Wednesday, May 24 in the Woodruff Ballroom of the Wyndham-Midtown Atlanta Hotel located at 125 10th Street, Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Roof Fund at Vienna United Methodist Church, 313 Church Street, Vienna, GA 31092.
