Freddy Barron

John Frederick "Freddy" Barron, age 83, of 366 East Railroad Street, Unadilla, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Fellowship Home at Cordelia Manor in Cordele.

Freddy was born at home in Unadilla to the late Fred Barron and Ethel Dennard Barron.  He attended elementary and high school in Unadilla and graduated from prep school at Georgia Military Academy.  While at GMA, he lettered in football, basketball and baseball.  He was named to the All Mid-South Basketball Team.  Freddy attended Georgia Southwestern College before joining the United States Army.  In 1962, he graduated from paratrooper school at Fort Benning and was assigned to the famous 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC and served with the 82nd Airborne Military Police until March 4, 1964.  He was very proud of being a paratrooper!

Following his military service, he was the owner of Barron's Discount Furniture with locations in Unadilla and Panama City, Florida.  Upon retiring, he worked as the manager of the Mobley Clearance Center in Perry for many years.  Freddy was a faithful member of the Unadilla Wesleyan Church.  He served on the Board of Trustees as chairman, was a faithful member of the Methodist Men, the Friends of Faith Sunday School Class and the Bible Study Group.

He is survived by the love of his life, Nancy Brannen Barron; his sons, Jeff Barron (Kim) of Unadilla and Brandon Barron of Atlanta; his granddaughters, Rebekah Barron Vereen (John), Rachel Barron Bast (Chandler) and Bethany Barron Scarboro (Avery); his great grandchildren, Sarah Vereen, J. C. Vereen, Ella Rose Bast and Noah Bast. Freddy was so proud of his entire family and loved them all dearly.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James David Barron and Bob Tucker and his sister, LaMarle Balcome.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, January 28 in Unadilla Wesleyan Church.  Interment with military honors will follow in Walnut Cemetery.

The family will greet friends 4 - 7 PM Saturday, January 27 at the funeral home.
