Edna Smith Hopper, age 87, of Unadilla, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at Woodstock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Unadilla, she was the daughter of the late Hude S. Smith and Minnie Sue Peavy Smith. Mrs. Hopper was a homemaker, a community leader and a lifelong resident of Unadilla. She served on the Unadilla City Council and in 1978, became the first woman elected Mayor of Unadilla. She served as Mayor until 1982. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Unadilla which she joined in 1934 and served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Mrs. Hopper was instrumental in reviving the WMU and started the Baptist Girls Auxiliary.

Christina L. Hopper of Athens
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Charles Frank Hopper and her daughter, Sarah Nannell Hopper.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Thursday, June 17 in First Baptist Church of Unadilla with interment in Walnut Cemetery.
The family will greet friends 8:30 - 10 AM Thursday, June 17 at the funeral home.
