Charles Gordon Sirmons, age 73, of Pinehurst, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Summerhill Senior Living Community in Perry. He was born May 9, 1949 in Dooly County, Georgia.
Charles graduated from Vienna High School in 1967. After high school, he served in the United States Army Reserves in the 421st Quarter Master Paratrooper Unit at the Fort Valley post. At 20 years old, Charles began his career in agriculture managing Asbury Wright Farms. He spent most of his career cultivating crops on his family’s farm in Pinehurst. After retiring from farming, he worked with Coley Gin and Fertilizer. Beginning in the 80’s, Charles volunteered over 10 years of his time with Ken Ragan’s NASCAR racing team changing tires during the races or hauling the car around the country. Charles was a founding member of the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department and served as their chief for several years.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Michele Lawson of Forsyth, and Tonya Jones (Chipper) of Pinehurst; his grandchildren, Joseph Jones (Morgan) of Statesboro, Morgan Lawson of Athens, Bo Jones of Auburn, Alabama, Ansley Lawson of Milledgeville, and Nate Lawson of Forsyth.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Sarah Sirmons, and his grandchild, Peyton Alexander Lawson (Michele).
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 2 in Pinehurst City Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Mason officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 - 7:30 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the funeral home.
