Catheryn Davis Green, age 89, of Vienna, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on April 8, 2015 at Crisp Regional Hospital surrounded by family.
She was a true southern lady possessing a beautiful southern accent always perfectly articulated. She made the best biscuits ever, caramel cake that would make one swoon, wonderful cheese-straws, always feeding family and friends with her great food seasoned with love.
Catheryn graduated from Vienna High School and entered Berry College at age 16, later finishing The University of Georgia with her degree in Home Economics in 1946. After graduating, Catheryn accepted a position as a Home Demonstration Agent for Dougherty County (Albany) where she met the love of her life and soon to be husband, Thomas Green. They were married for 57 years. She was a stay at home mother for many years raising five children, using her spare time to volunteer for the church and the community. She reentered the professional workforce when her youngest child entered school. She went on to become the Director of the Dooly County MR Service Center. She served in this position from 1973 until her retirement in 1988.
A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, Catheryn grew up attending the Vienna United Methodist Church and later was a founding member of the Putney United Methodist Church. After returning to Vienna she resumed an active role in the Vienna United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Atkinson Ferd Davis and Ovie Purcell Davis, brothers Joseph Harold Davis, and Edwin Herschel Davis and her husband Thomas J. Green.
She is survived her five children who often debate which is her favorite. In reality they all were special to her in each of their unique ways; Jon Green (Susan), Gail McClure (Joe), Steve Green (Leslie), Paul Green and Ann Green. She also leaves 10 grandchildren; Christopher McClure (Erin), Adam Green (Amy), Brockton Laethem, Faulkner Thor (Ryan), Jamie Green, Anna Horne (Justin), Brenten Laethem, Brandon Laethem (Kayla), Samantha Green, and Catie Green. She was a proud great grandmother leaving the youngest family members; Landon Thor, Dalton Green, Dustin Green, Alex Thor, Ira Green, and expected to arrive in May, Jack McClure.
Funeral services will be at 3 PM Sunday, April 12 in Vienna United Methodist Church. Interment will be Monday, April 13 in Andersonville National Cemetery.
The family will greet friends 6 – 8 PM Friday, April 10 at the funeral home.
