Bill Lester

Bill Lester, age 74, of 22155 South Oaks Road, Byromville, died Monday, August 1, 2022 in Byromville.

Bill was born in Athens to the late Oscar Lester and Ouida Scarborough Lester and grew up at the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch in Hahira.  He graduated from Hahira High School and Valdosta Technical College.  Bill served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He retired from Georgia Power after 29 years of service.  He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and the Georgia Sheriff's Association.  Bill was a dedicated member of the ROMEO Club and could be found most mornings attending the club "meetings" at McDonalds in Vienna.  He loved hunting and also enjoyed fixing things.  He regularly attended the monthly Brotherhood meetings at Vienna First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: Wife:  Dorothy Johnson Lester of Byromville

Son:  Michael Edwards (Cindy) of Montezuma

Sisters: Ellen Williams of Danielsville Karen Bomar of Montgomery, AL

Grandchildren: Kayla Edwards of Macon Kyle Kitchens of Sylvester

Brother-in-law:  Richard L. "Ricky" Johnson (Linda) of Oglethorpe

Sister-in-law:  Gwen Johnson Free (Chip) of Elko

Special Mother:  Ruth Terry of Hahira

He is also survived by his 4-legged companion, Toby.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 4 in Byromville Baptist Church.  Interment with military honors will follow in Johnson Cemetery.

The family will greet friends 9:30 - 11 am Thursday, August 4 in the fellowship hall of Byromville Baptist Church.
