Becky (Jones) Lawrence

Reba Hill Jones Lawrence, "Becky," was born in Hawkinsville on January 10, 1945 to the late James Grady Jones and Reba Hill Jones of Vienna.  She passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta with her loving family by her side.

She graduated from Vienna High School in 1962, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College as Valedictorian in 1964 and the University of Georgia in 1966.  She taught school in Crisp, Jackson and Dooly Counties and also at Fullington Academy.

She and her husband, Dewel were married in 1967.  Being a homemaker and raising their son was Becky's greatest fulfillment.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and serving others.

Having a tender heart for animals, Becky cared for many throughout her life.  She found pleasure in watching and protecting the wildlife on their farm.

Becky was a faithful Christian woman who loved the Lord and led by example.  She was a lifelong member of Vienna First Baptist Church and was a member of the Vivian Bonner Sunday School Class.  She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for most of her adult life and also served as department head of the nursery for 20 years.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother sister, aunt and friend.  Affectionately called, Beck Beck, she loved and was adored by her nephews and their wives and great nephews.  It was her delight to help in caring for and to support them in their school and sports activities.

Becky is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dewel Lawrence,; her son, James Lawrence of Vienna; her sister, Grada Horne (Bill) of Pinehurst; her sisters-in-law, Judy Drew (Wayne) of Pace, FL and Joni Lawrence of Dublin; her nephews, Adam Horne (Laura) of Pinehurst, Rich Horne (Jami) of Pinehurst; great nephews, Jake Horne, Luke Horne, Ben Horne, Orrin Horne and Isaac Horne.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, January 3 in the chapel of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home with interment following in Swearingen Cemetery near Byromville.

The family may be contacted at the Lawrence residence, 6293 Highway 41 North, Vienna.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the church or charity of your choice.
