Alfred Carlton Daniel, age 80, of 1910 Rena Lane, Dalton, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
Born in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Alfred Duke Daniel and Annie Ruth Morris Daniel.
Alfred was an insightful and sincere man who possessed a keen sense of integrity and enjoyed research and intellectual challenges. He earned his PhD in Physics at the University of Alabama. His Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering were earned at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He held teaching positions at the University of Colorado and the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He spent most of his career working as a civilian with the US Army Missile Command in Huntsville. Later he was the founder and President of Dantrol, Inc., an equipment development company based in Dalton. He was a skilled wood turner and an active member of Apple Ridge Woodturners of Ellijay, Georgia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lena Rebekah Spradley Daniel of Dalton. Alfred was extremely loving and proud of his four children, Lisa Ann Daniel DellaGuardia of Asheville, NC, Molly Rebekah Daniel Ponder of Asheville, NC, Thomas Duke Daniel of Anderson, SC and Judd Edward Daniel of Sacramento, CA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 4 PM Thursday, December 27 in the chapel of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Unadilla. Interment will follow in Walnut Cemetery.
