Royce Wyman Cooley

October 9, 1932 ~ January 21, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


Royce W. Cooley, age 84, passed from this life at his home in Vienna, Georgia on Saturday, January 21, 2017.  

Born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, he became a true Texan at a very early age living with his grandparents, Zachariah and Ida Jolley in Valley View, Texas, until graduating from high school,  He then moved to Dallas, Texas where he met his future wife.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed on Okinawa.  After his military service, he became a cotton merchant with offices in Dallas and Lubbock, Texas.  He was affectionately known as "Buzz" by friends and family, even his sons.  His goal since moving to Georgia was to help every farmer he could with their financial difficulties.

Mr. Cooley was a member of the Williams Road Church of Christ in Americus.  He had been a faithful member of the Church of Christ since his youth and served as a Deacon and Elder for congregations in Texas and Georgia.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce G. Cooley; his daughter, Lisa Gay Cooley of Vienna; his sons, Clay E. Cooley and his wife Lisa of Dallas, Texas and Clint W. Cooley of Richardson, Texas; his grandchildren, Chase Cooley, Ciara Cooley, Madison Cooley, Chance Cooley and Cason Cooley, all of Dallas, Texas and Chandler Cooley of Vienna; his great granddaughter, Kayden Cooley of Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his devoted mother, Lucy B. Brackett; his step-father, Robert L. Brackett; his brother, Harold Gene Cooley; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Cooley.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 28 in the chapel of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home.
